Create Hair for AAA Games Course

I am a Lead Character artist working at Jagex. Previously I worked at Ubisoft Quebec assassin's creed odyssey and I was the Lead on Gods and Monsters.

In this course I will show you my full pipeline in creating hair and will give you some tips and trick in creating hair for Games, the techniques I used is something I have developed over a number of years.

It’s not just a technical beast; it’s an art form. You can push all the right buttons and do everything right in the software, but have it still look like crap.

Because, at the end of the day, creating realistic hair requires an artistic eye to judge layering, edging, color & saturation, as well as so much more…

What will I get in this course?

Module 1

This module I will teach you the theory of hair, using a technique I have developed using traditional

wig making techniques. We will also be blocking out the hair shape of what will want for the final

product.

Module 2

We will be creating the hair texture, that we will use for the hair and beard. Using Zbrush we will use

Fibermesh to create the Hair texture.

Module 3

Using X-gen we will create the curves and hair placement that will help us create our hair planes. We

will also be talking about the flow of hair and making sure we have rhythm in our hair.

Module 4

This module we will continue to build up the hair using the tools that we used in week3. Adding the

2ndary hair planes and the fly way’s.

Module 5

We will create a hair cap which we can also use to make a buzz cut hairstyle, so we will be getting

Two haircuts out of one.

Module 6

This week I will be showing you how to create a flow/ direction map and how we apply that in

Marmoset and how to set up your hair.

1. Make your flow maps in Substance Painter.

2. Set up your hair in marmoset.

Module 7

I will be showing you how to create a beard also using the theory of tradition bear making

technique.

Module 8

Where would our character be without eyebrows? I will give you the theory of what is needed to

create eyebrows.

Module 9

Every Character needs eye Lashes and I will run you throw a very easy way to create your eyelashes.

Module 10

This is going to be a course in itself I will run you through how I make a character as well as creating a

Werewolf character so we will be covering animal fur from start to finish.

1. Create an animal body.

2. Use interactive grooming to create the fur.

3. Split the mesh up ready for the plane.

4. Create the texture.

5. Set up and render your work.
